Provides
“Performance” provides Hydration, Electrolyte Replacement and Energy Replacement better than any other Sports Drink.
HYDRATION:
Performance activates the thirst mechanism immediately:
So, your need for fluids is matched by your thirst.
Performance enters the blood stream as fast as plain water:
The mixture is designed to leave the stomach as fast as water and move across the intestinal boundary as fast as water.
ELECTROLYTE REPLACEMENT:
Supplies all six electrolytes:
Sodium, Chloride, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Phosphate.
Solves three major problems associated with lack of electrolytes:
1. Muscle Cramps:
Sodium, Magnesium and Calcium help the blood maintain a proper acid/base balance to help prevent cramps.
2. Muscle Fatigue:
Electrolytes are involved in contraction, relaxation, and general overall muscle metabolism. Electrolytes provide the "grease" which reduces resistance between muscle groups. Thus, reducing fatigue.
3. Thirst Control:
Electrolytes trigger the thirst mechanism previously discussed.
ENERGY REPLACEMENT:
All sugars you consume end up in your blood as glucose. Fructose is absorbed differently, and it goes to the liver to be converted into glucose.
All of your blood glucose (blood sugar) generally ends up in one of four places in the body.
1. Burned by various body cells for energy.
2. Excess is converted into fat and stored somewhere on your person.
3. Converted by the liver into liver glycogen. This is a storage form of sugar to be used for future energy.
4. Converted by the muscle into muscle glycogen for immediate use.
As you exercise, several things happen:
Muscle glycogen is quickly used up. Blood glucose is converted into muscle glycogen. Blood glucose gets depleted and the liver is called on to supply more. The liver’s first responsibility is to supply glucose to the brain. So, when the liver starts to run low, it stops supplying the muscles and supplies the brain exclusively. Fatigue sets in and you either slow down or stop.
You would think a simple glucose/water solution would work.
Two main problems with glucose/water:
1. Empties very slowly from the stomach
2. Slow to be absorbed into the blood stream from the intestine.
Performance offers four solutions:
1. A glucose polymer is a bunch of glucose molecules hooked together in various linkages. Adding glucose polymers to the solution helps speed the mixture out of the stomach.
2. Adding sodium to the mixture significantly increases the uptake of fluid across the intestinal barrier and into the blood stream.
3. Fructose is nearly four times more efficient than glucose in restoring liver glycogen. Adding fructose means the liver will remain well stocked and be able to supply blood glucose when needed.
4. Performance contains all three carbs (glucose, glucose polymers, fructose) and sodium in the correct proportions so as to move the mixture from the stomach to the blood stream as fast as plain water.
By drinking Performance your muscles will always have fuel; they'll have the six minerals essential for proper muscle metabolism; and hydration will be optimized.
